JOSH KEYES
Josh Keyes' style is reminiscent of the diagrammatic vocabulary found in scientific textbook illustrations that often express through a detached and clinical viewpoint an empirical representation of the natural world.
I have known about Josh Keyes for a while now, but, recently, his work has gotten even more interesting. Broken islands float in space, while technology and nature smash together creating the debris of human existence.
This is what Keyes has said about his art work:
"The imagery that fascinates me is associated with mythology and folklore, specifically the legends and stories that seem to take place in the space between dreams and nightmares. For me this area contains the strongest psychological relationship to our present ecological situation and gives voice to the underlying existential anxiety and uncertainty many people have about the future."
His pieces really capture the flux of nature and inevitable change and loss. The confusion of raw nature and man's consumer culture enhances the beauty of these self-contemplative works.
